About the Venue
The beginnings of the East Anglia Transport Museum date back to 1962, when four local tramway enthusiasts rescued the body of Lowestoft Tramcar No. 14 and developed the idea of creating a transport museum.
The museum was established on its present site in 1965 and opened to the public for the first time in 1972.
Today, it preserves a wide-ranging collection of historic transport, including trams, trolleybuses, buses and the East Suffolk Light Railway.
Accessibility & Physical Access
The East Anglia Transport Museum is a historic site and some parts of the investigation have limited accessibility.
Guests will move between areas using established roads and pathways. There are no planned muddy or gravel walking areas on the normal SPI event route.
Some areas include cobbled road and tramway surfaces. These are maintained but can be uneven underfoot.
Access to some historic buildings, trams, buses and other vehicles may involve steps, narrow entrances or other physical restrictions, meaning not every investigation area will be accessible to every guest.
An accessible toilet is available.
If you have mobility, accessibility or participation requirements, please contact SPI before booking so we can explain the expected conditions and discuss any reasonable adjustments that may be possible.
You do not normally need to provide a medical diagnosis — it is more useful to tell us about the barrier you may experience or the adjustment you require.
Areas We Investigate
The investigation is expected to take place across various buildings and areas around the museum site, together with selected historic trams and buses.
We do not advertise a fixed list of individual buildings because the exact investigation areas may vary depending on venue access, operational requirements and safety considerations on the night.
SPI will explain the areas available and any restrictions during the event briefing.
What Happens During the Evening?
Guests will meet the SPI team, check in and receive an introduction and important safety and venue briefing.
You’ll normally be divided into smaller investigation groups and rotate through different areas of the museum.
SPI hosts will introduce different equipment, investigation methods and experiments and support guests who have never investigated before.
Scheduled breaks will take place during the evening.
Where venue rules, staffing, time and safety arrangements allow, there may also be opportunities for quieter or more independent investigation. This cannot be guaranteed and does not permit entry into restricted areas.
Meeting Point, Parking & Base Area
Guests should meet the SPI team in the adjoining museum car park.
Parking is available free of charge.
SPI’s base and break area will be inside the café building. The café itself will not be open during the event.
Guests may use the base area during breaks and may leave belongings there, although personal belongings remain the responsibility of the guest.
Please arrive at the advertised time.
If you are running late, contact SPI as soon as possible. Where venue arrangements allow, we will normally try to accommodate arrivals up to approximately 15 minutes after the advertised start time, but late admission cannot be guaranteed once the investigation has begun.
Equipment, What to Bring & Refreshments
SPI provides a range of paranormal investigation equipment for guests to use and will explain how it works.
Guests may also bring their own investigation equipment and remain responsible for it throughout the evening.
Please bring:
- a torch
- sensible, sturdy footwear
- warm clothing and additional layers
- any personal medication or essential items you require
- your own paranormal investigation equipment if you wish

Some museum buildings and historic vehicles may be cold and unheated, so please dress appropriately.
SPI will provide tea and coffee.
The museum café will not be open.
